Tablecloth by Quilt Club
About the Creation
Quilt Club made a 75 metre tablecloth made up of vibrant patchwork and applique that reflected and celebrated the diversity of culture in the borough. The tablecloth was used to cover the banquet tables at the Haringey Feast.
About the Artists
Quilt Club
Founded in 2021, Quilt Club is a diverse and inclusive community quilting project, sharing skills and stories to create thought-provoking and surprising public works of art. Quilt Club is all about making art accessible and addressing the inequalities in the art creation process by making it available to people from different socio-economic backgrounds. They also love sustainable art, with almost all fabrics used being saved from landfill.
For the Haringey Feast project, Quilt Club was generously supported by local organisation Semsah, founded by Susanna Mensah.
Semsah
Founded Susanna Mensah, Semsah is a harmonious name fusion of Western and African influences, uniting consumers and producers.
Susanna has well over a decade in fashion production experience and started Semsah as a consultancy and sewing platform. It fosters craftsmanship appreciation, sustainability, and the growth of circular fashion businesses.
Susanna and her team partner work with local sewing experts to teach consumers garment care and to empower aspiring sewing professionals, offering alteration services and educational workshops.
It's a journey where culture meets sustainability, where craftsmanship thrives, and where the future of fashion and sewists’ lives are transformed, one stitch at a time.
About the Community
To produce the stunning tablecloths, Quilt club ran weekly workshops at their Eade Road Studios. They also ran a sewing Bee with readers at Marcus Garvey library.
