Sunflower Sculpture by Alina Gavrielatos
About the Creation
Alina Gavrielatos, in collaboration with residents at Prisicilla Wakefield House, created a large 2D Sunflower sculpture using sustainable materials. T
his joyful piece of art was displayed at the Haringey Feast. Each part of the sunflower reflected the stories, identities and imaginations of the participants who decorated them.
About the Artist
Alina is a Greek/Canadian local multimedia artist and workshop facilitator who runs visual and film projects in schools, colleges and various organisations such as the Imperial War Museum, V&A, ICA and Film London.
She is also an exhibiting artist, and her work is shown internationally.
About the Community
The sunflower sculpture was made in collaboration with residents and carers at Priscilla Wakefield House.
All participants were given a petal, leaf or part of the stem and painted and or collaged their own design. The separate parts were then assembled to create the whole sunflower, which reflected the personal stories and identities of the care home residents.
This inclusive workshop encouraged discussion and interaction.
